PCPC, known for operating a 135 MW coal-fired power plant in the same area, is celebrating its seventh anniversary of commercial operations. This solar project represents PCPC’s expansion into the realm of renewable energy. PCPC’s President and CEO, Nicandro Fucoy, highlighted the significance of the solar farm, emphasizing its potential to reduce carbon emissions while contributing as an additional energy source. Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. praised PCPC’s green initiative, aligning it with the provincial government’s commitment to renewable energy.
Thailand’s Public Health Ministry Goes Green With Solar Power Adoption
The Public Health Ministry of Thailand is taking strides toward sustainability by embracing solar power and electric vehicles to combat energy consumption and address global warming. Under the Ministry’s Smart Energy and Climate Action (SECA) policy, 1,855 agencies are mandated to install solar panels by the year’s end. These agencies include Provincial Public Health Offices, District Public Health Offices, regional hospitals, general hospitals, and community hospitals. Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, the ministry’s permanent secretary, anticipates annual electricity cost savings of 904.35 million baht and a reduction of 99,458 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.

A groundbreaking 100-megawatt (MW) floating solar power facility, the first in Visayas and Mindanao, is set to be constructed in Cadiz City, northern Negros Occidental. The project is a collaboration between Zonal Renewables Corp. (ZRC) and property owner A.M. Hijos Inc. (AMHI), known for their prominent Montelibano family ties in the region. The facility will be located on a 90-hectare fishpond in Barangay Tinampaan. While specific details such as project cost and construction timelines remain undisclosed, the Montelibano family views this endeavor as their contribution to the government’s decarbonization efforts, as a floating solar power project can sequester around 1,250 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to planting 357,500 trees each year.

In a recent announcement on the stock exchange, ACEN revealed that its renewable energy unit, ACEN Renewables International Pte. Ltd. (ACRI), has entered into a shareholders’ agreement with Silverwolf Capital Ltd. for this project, establishing a joint venture entity named ACEN-Silverwolf Pte. Ltd. ACEN disclosed that ACRI is planning to invest approximately $2 million as working capital for the project, with ACEN holding a 50% ownership stake in the venture.
