Indonesia as an archipelagic country has cultural diversity. However, in the era of globalization, love and pride in one’s own culture is decreasing due to the influence of foreign culture. Nevertheless, Indonesian culture has received international recognition since batik was recognized as a cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2009.
BINUS UNIVERSITY as a world-class Indonesian higher education institution, always strives to continue to innovate in order to develop and empower the community. Realizing the importance of introducing Indonesian culture, BINUS UNIVERSITY through BeeLintang was present to appear at the Best of ASEAN Performing Arts event which was attended by 11 ASEAN countries on November 29-30 at the Jakarta Arts Building under the guidance of Mr. Rama Wowor. BeeLintang performs with the Kolintang performance at 20.45 – 21.00, and invites the audience to sing and dance Gemu Fa Mire as the closing.
BeeLintang or “BINUSIAN Berseni dengan Kolintang” comes from the words “Bee” which means Bee and “Lintang” which is short for the musical instrument “Kolintang”. Bees reflect hardworking, diligent and loyal creatures. Bees are also creative and talented creatures, and produce something that is useful for themselves, the community and other creatures, so BeeLintang is expected to be able to reflect the creative and talented BINUSIAN, one of which is in artistic activities using kolintang musical instruments which provide benefits and entertainment for community or other communities.
Best of ASEAN Performing Arts is an annual event from ASEAN which aims to present the best arts and cultural performances in ASEAN on a regular basis to promote the richness and diversity of regional culture. In the first year of the Best of ASEAN Performing Arts, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Mr Jero Wacik said, “We realize that culture can bridge individuals, tribes and nations in harmony and tolerance. Therefore, we can use culture as a diplomatic tool that is beneficial for all parties. The Best of ASEAN Performing Arts is not only the perfect platform to preserve, preserve and develop culture but also to create understanding and respect for each other’s cultural diversity and richness.”
On this occasion, apart from specifically gaining the trust to appear in the Best of ASEAN Performing Arts event, BeeLintang itself is currently in the process of being recognized by UNESCO. This certainly has an important role for BINUS UNIVERSITY. In this way, it is hoped that BeeLintang can be developed in BINUS University UKM activities, so that the kolintang musical instrument becomes better known, especially by the younger generation of BINUSIANs who come from various regions. BINUSIAN also has great hopes that BeeLintang activities can introduce Indonesian culture to the whole world.
