Phnom Penh, Cambodia (ANTARA) – Indonesia won as the general championship of the 2023 ASEAN Para Games para-badminton in Cambodia, having earned 30 medals, including 13 gold, nine silver, and eight bronze.
Indonesia’s para-badminton gathered six gold and nine silver medals on the last day of the Games at Morodok Techo National Stadium, Phnom Penh on Friday.
Thailand followed in second place with 29 medals, which included seven gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze.
Five All-Indonesia finals competed in Friday’s match, which consisted of men’s singles SU5, WH2, men’s doubles SL3-SL4, SU5, and mixed doubles SL3-SU5.
The first gold medal was awarded to Qonitah Syakuroh in the women’s singles SL3, after defeating Thailand’s Darunee Henpraiwan with scores of 21-7 and 21-10.
The second gold medal was won by the SU5 men’s doubles pair, Dheva Anrimusthi and Hafizh Briliansyah Prawiranegara, after defeating two other Indonesian athletes, Oddie Kurnia Dwi Listianto Putra and Suryo Nugroho in the final match, with scores of 21-12 and 21-10.
Oddie Putra and Nugroho won the silver medal.
Hikmat Ramdani and Leani Ratri Oktila won the third gold medal in the SL3-SU5 mixed doubles, after defeating another Indonesian pair, Fredy Setiawan and Khalimatus Sadiyah Sukohandoko, with scores of 21-15 and 21-19.
Setiawan and Sukohandoko took home silver medals.
Moreover, Indonesia’s Supriadi won the fourth gold after defeating Wiwin Andri in the men’s singles WH2 with a score of 21-17 and 21-18.
The fifth medal was earned by Anrimusthi in the men’s singles SU5, and the sixth gold was by the SL3-SL4 men’s doubles pair, Hary Susanto and Ukun Rukaendi, who also defeated the Indonesian pair Dwiyoko and Setiawan.
Leani Ratri Oktila, who won two gold medals and one silver in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, said she was confident she could achieve maximum results.
“I am confident that I can win gold because after giving birth, I took my regular training and pursued programs and worked with doctors, physiotherapists, and coaches to catch up,” Oktila said.
Overall, Indonesia brought home 159 golds from the 2023 ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia.
